Story of the Week
It happens to everyone (especially us creators and entrepreneurs).
When I wrote one of my other books, Will It Fly?, I couldn't look at another word by the time I finished. I needed a break.
A long one.
The mere sight of my writing software made me queasy. But you know what? The book went on to become a Wall Street Journal bestseller, even though it was self-published. And although it was published ten years ago, I still get letters and messages from people who tell me it has changed their lives.
And don't get me started on my first website, Green Exam Academy. Back then, we didn't have fancy website builders or templates. I spent countless nights wrestling with HTML and CSS until I swore I'd never look at another line of code again. That website? It went on to help thousands of people pass their exams and launched my entire entrepreneurial journey.
Even one of my friends, who spent a year renovating her first house, told me she couldn't look at another paint swatch for months after she finished. Now that same house is her pride and joy.
Here's what I've learned: Sometimes, being "sick of it" is actually a badge of honor. It means you've given it everything. You've scrutinized every detail, questioned every decision, and pushed through every doubt. You've cared so much that you've temporarily lost the ability to see your creation with fresh eyes.
The truth is, I'm not really sick of my book — I'm sick of how much I care about getting it right. And based on the early feedback (which, honestly, has been incredible), that obsessive care is exactly what's making it my best work yet.
So, if you're in that phase with your project — whether it's your first course, your new podcast, or your fledgling business — where you're starting to feel a little nauseous every time you look at it, congratulations. You're in good company. It might just mean you're on the verge of creating something extraordinary.
Sometimes, you have to get sick of it before others fall in love with it. Hope this helps.
If you're wondering about that book I'm "sick of", stay tuned. Our release date in June is coming fast, and I can't wait for you to see what all this obsession has created. I have a feeling you're going to love it (even if I need a short break from it first 😉).
If you’d like to pre-order the book and get it as soon as it comes out, it’s actually available now at LeanLearningBook.com — I can’t believe it’s almost here. If you pre-order and save your receipt, I’ll have a bonus available for you to redeem closer to when the book’s launched, so be sure to keep that handy! June 3rd is the date! Thank you so much, truly. It means the world.
